This is a significant problem, as the horse that is not focusing on the ditch at all is often surprised and shocked by the ditch. Not only can this cause a refusal, but it can also undermine the horse's confidence. This is often just a matter of experience, but there are some things you can do at home to teach your horse to focus on what is immediately in front of him, rather than focusing only on what grabs his attention!
