Lesley is a "graduate" of Jimmy Wofford's training program, and has competed to the Advanced 4 star level in 3 day Eventing on a horse she bought off the track as a 3 year old. She has also trained through the Prix St Georges level in Dressage, and was an Equine Vet Tech at the prestigious Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. Riders instinctively pull back on the reins when their horse becomes strong or heavy. Instead of fixing the problem, pulling back invites the horse into a game of "tug of war." Here's an exercise you can do on the ground, that will show you how to control your strong horse far more effectively!

The single most common bad habit a jumping rider can have is that of jumping ahead of their horse! Sometimes it is so subtle that you are not even aware that you are moving while your horse is trying to lift his front end for take off. And even when it is subtle - it greatly affects the horse!
