In the "Takeoff Zone" - the last 20 feet or so when approaching a jump - the horse must focus entirely on the fence. The rider needs all preparation done prior to this zone and must stay out of the horse's way from that point on. Learn how to do this here!

When you ride powerfully forward to the base of your jumps you allow your horse to jump in such a way that is actually the easiest and most natural for him. Building the horse's power right to the base of the jump means that he stresses his hocks
Competitions are a test of our progress as horsemen. They are not an end in themselves.
Riders who get the best out of the sensitive type of horse are usually especially good at being tactful.
